I started work on this cake yesterday. Since all I've finished is the filling, I can report that part is delicious and I have high hopes for the rest of it. The whole house smells of orange zest which is very nice. It better be good because any cake that needs two to three days to prepare is only getting made once a year, if that.

Oh, my god, that sounds good (except for the caramel part - not a caramel fan). I may need to encourage my cake-baking husband to make that. We're both suckers for orange zest. :)

I'm halving the cake part of the recipe because as is, it makes a monstrous wedding-sized cake. But I didn't halve the filling so if there is "accidentally" any left over, I'll have no choice but to take one of the commenters' suggestions and eat it straight, with berries. mmmmmmm. :-)
